Is Pole Position The Worst Place To Start In Miami GP? Stats Say Yes!

The qualifying rounds at the Miami International Autodrome produced an exciting finish. The Italian racer Kimi Antonelli defeated table leader Oscar Piastri by .045 seconds at the Sprint event. Recording the fastest pole lap ever at the Miami International Autodrome, the 18-year-old racer became the youngest Formula One polesitter in any form of an F1 race. He will be pleased with the result, but wait, there is a concerning stat…

Historically, the pole racer has never won the race in Miami. In the previous three seasons’ races, Charles LaClerc (2022), Sergio Perez (2023) and Max Verstappen (2024) won the pole position in the respective years. But they never won the race in those seasons. Max Verstappen (2022 and 2023) and Lando Norris (2024) won the races.

Had Verstappen won the race in 2024, Verstappen would have broken the ‘jinx’ but would have been the only winner at the event, with three titles in a row. Check out the details of the 2025 Miami GP.

As for the car, the MCL38 continues to prove to be the most adaptable car so far. Despite the hot weather conditions, McLaren has dominated the tracks. The traditional dominator, Ferrari, continues to struggle. Call it Hamilton’s adjustment phase or the failure of the car, the team already looked like a weak challenger.

Leader Leclerc was slower than Antonelli in every turn and sector. Both racers finished sixth and seventh with 0.326- and 0.548-second gaps for LeClerc and Hamilton respectively. The actual race will start on Sunday, May 4, with 20 challengers looking to strengthen their position in the standings.
