Chance for Cristiano Ronaldo to End Trophy Draught? CR7’s Next Destination Makes Headlines

Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr

Cristiano Ronaldo last won a major trophy in 2021 as his Juventus side lifted the Copa Italia title. Later, he spent a ‘forgetful’ season with Manchester United. The massive and shocking move to Al Nassr CR won just one trophy – the Arab Club Champions Cup (2023) in three seasons. For a player of Cristiano’s status, the three-year wait is like eternity. But now, a shocking move to a Premier League side could present Cristiano with a chance to win a prestigious award – the FIFA Club World Cup.

With Al Nassr failing to qualify via their league position, Cristiano Ronaldo will miss the tournament. But a shocking suitor arises with a short-term deal. As per reports, Chelsea is preparing an offer for Ronaldo.

FIFA also confirmed that the new season will have two transfer windows this summer to allow teams to sign players before the Club World Cup. The window will open between Sunday, 1 June and Tuesday, 10 June, then close for five days before running again from Monday, 16 June until Monday, 1 September, allowing Chelsea to attack an important signing like Cristiano Ronaldo

32 clubs will participate in this money-spinning competition that will begin on June 14. Adding the player of Cristiano Ronaldo’s popularity will do wonders for the Club World Cup, also. (Heard that they are failing to create a buzz?)Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami will take on African Giants Al Ahly at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. If the draw falls perfectly in line, fans will be excited to watch the Messi vs Ronaldo matchup once again.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Recent Transfer Rumours

Ronaldo is a hot prospect in any league, any competition, and after his Saudi side struggled, the Portuguese captain was heavily linked with many high-profile teams, at the age of 40. Earlier in March this year, Talk Sport reported a possible union of Ronaldo and Messi at Inter Miami, with the American side said to have “wiggle room to sign Ronaldo” The thought of this potential Union thrilled the Imagination of the fans, but ultimately, nothing came of it.

More recently, rumours emerged about Ronaldo joining Al-Hilal, another Saudi club and rival of Al-Nassr. But Al-Hilal’s chief executive, Esteve Calzada, dismissed the speculation outright, telling Goal.com:
“That sounds like science fiction. Cristiano Ronaldo is not our player so it’s difficult to comment on that. He’s not a free agent just now, so it’s not nice to talk about that.”

Chelsea, whose search for a striker continues, is flirting with the idea of adding Cristiano Ronaldo on a short-term deal that will enable the 40-year-old to represent the London Giants for the duration of the Club World Cup. He can return to Al Nassr in the Saudi League. The move not only presents Chelsea owners with the opportunity to hit a Marketing and media Coup, but it presents Cristiano Ronaldo with the opportunity to end his Trophy Drought since his move to the Saudi Pro League more than 2 years ago.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 97 goals in 109 matches for Al Nassr, with his efficiency in front of the goal never in doubt. Sadly, it has not translated to titles won, leaving both the Portuguese and fans of Al Nassr frustrated. At the start of May, Ronaldo and Al Nassr suffered more heartache in the Asian Champions League semi-final, losing 2-3 on aggregate to J League Outfit Kawasaki Frontale.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s time in Saudi Arabia has yet to deliver the success he envisioned. This time, Al Nassr’s elimination from the King’s Cup has dealt another blow to the Portuguese forward’s hopes for a team trophy since joining the club in January 2023. With this latest loss, Ronaldo now has nine missed opportunities to claim a title in his Saudi Arabian journey.

For Ronaldo, these nine missed attempts at team trophies have left him holding steady at 34 official titles earned with clubs like Sporting, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and with the Portugal national team. His current options for success in Saudi Arabia have narrowed to the league, where Al Nassr sit fourth, 11 points behind leaders Al Ittihad.

The “curse” seems unbroken in the Saudi Pro League, but with Chelsea’s interest, it seems Cristiano Ronaldo could join and make it Trophy number 35. Will Ronaldo go for a short-term move or seek a permanent transfer from Al-Nassr will be the question, though.
