Many First Time Winners in 2024-25 Soccer Season: Tottenham’s Europa Championship, Newcastle United With Carabao Cup Title, Bolonga Lifting Copa Italia Trophy and Other Dream Runs
The 2024-25 European Football League season will be remembered as the season for the ‘Newbies’ unexpectedly breaking boundaries and records by winning titles and trophies that had until this season had remained elusive.
Liverpool remains a powerhouse in English and world football with a record-equalling 20th Premier League title. In Spain, it’s FC Barcelona once again crowned the winners of the La Liga 2024-25, completing its domestic treble. PSG and Napoli claimed the French League and Italian League titles, while the Bundesliga saw Bayern Munich regain its supremacy. But other competition winners ended their long wait for glory. So let’s take a look at the first-time winners of the 2024-25 season.

Bologna: Coppa Italia 2024-25 Winners

After losing Coach Thiago Motta and top players like Ricardo Calafiori and Joshua Zirkzee, fans feared the worst could happen to a team that had just picked Champions League football the previous season.
Champions League football this season is beyond Bologna -as they sit in 8th place with 62 points, 5 points behind 4th place Juventus with a game left in the season- but fans will be massively compensated with their first-ever major trophy since 1974 while reports say coach Vincenzo Italiano has chosen to extend his contract by a further 12 months.
Newcastle United: EFL Cup 2024-25 Winners
As Newcastle United celebrated its EFL Cup win with a bus parade, rivals mocked and accused them of ‘celebrating’ the EFL Cup with a prize money of just 100 thousand pounds. The Newcastle fans don’t care though, as the club ended its 56-year wait for a major trophy after defeating Liverpool 2-1 in the final.
Newcastle United last won a major trophy, the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup on June 11, 1969 as they beat Hungarian side Ujpest 6-2 on aggregate, becoming the second English side to win the tournament after Leeds United. The Inter-Cities Fairs Cup was the predecessor to the Europa League.
A Champions League qualification to follow the EFL Cup triumph will certainly put the toons into dreamland in anticipation of future successes.
Crystal Palace: FA Cup 2024-25 Winners
Winning your first ever Major trophy is an epoch moment in any club’s history but having to do so after nearly 120 years in the clubs history is truly Monumental and the club rightfully will celebrate with its fans in the open bus parade on May 26th. A trophy for the people as co-owner Steve Parish highlighted:
“Unbelievable. This is for everybody. Everybody that has sent me a bit of encouragement when it’s been going badly, all the people that stick with you, that believe, this is for them”
The fans will never forget the 2024-25 season as it has also afforded them the opportunity of European football next season, as the players prepare for Europa League football.
Tottenham and Son: UEFA Europa League 2024-25 Winners
Heung Min Son described himself as a Tottenham legend following the 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final.
Not since Juande Ramos -17 years ago in the EFL Cup final against Chelsea- has Tottenham won a major trophy. Mocked by the media and fans, manager Ange Postecoglu declared he always wins in his second season, a statement that seemed even funny for a man whose more illustrious predecessors(Conte, Mourinho, Pochettino) had tried and failed miserably, the Club tiptoed to its 4th European success against all odds while sitting 17th on the Premier league table.
Despite recording a record number 21 defeats in the Premier League season, their worst ever. Tottenham will be present in the 2025-26 Champions League and they have had to do it via the unexpected route of actually winning a trophy.
It’s a decade since Son Joined Tottenham, and it was only befitting that he finally lifted a trophy after ignoring several chances to leave for better chances of winning, as Kane did.
Special Mention: Harry Kane
Bayern Munich finally reclaimed the Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen. Its 25th league title was made even sweeter as it marked Harry Kane’s first ever major silverware as a player despite his mercurial achievement of over 400 senior career goals. Kane expressed his joy at winning his first senior career silverware, but also highlighted the relief of having the Weight off his back
One thing is for sure, the 2024-25 season will not be forgotten in a hurry as football is better than the teams who rarely taste success do, while sides like Manchester City and Arsenal end without a major trophy.
There is one more first-timer loading at the moment as PSG will play the UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan to claim its first UCL Trophy.
