Mykhailo Mudryk Doping Charges: Possible Four Year Ban and Options for Chelsea Star As FA Confirms Charges

Chelsea Winger Mykhailo Mudryk

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk is found guilty of doping charges, and as per the Anti-Doping Rule Violations, the Chelsea star could face a ban of up to four years. The winger already denied knowingly breaking any rules and was sidelined from late 2024 while waiting to learn his fate.

The FA spokesperson confirms the news and said, “We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of the FA ’s Anti-Doping Regulations. As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time”.

From the start of the process, Mykhailo Mudryk had been very clear with his stance and even shared a post on Instagram as he wrote, “I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to The FA contained a banned substance.” The post was shared in December 2024.

After the news of his positive result broke, Mudryk once again went public expressing his feelings on the same. “This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules”, he said, “And am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened. I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon. I cannot say any more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can,”

Club Showing Support and Options for Mykhailo Mudryk

Chelsea signed Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023. The massive deal was worth up to £89m and was signed for nearly eight years, meaning the end of the 2031 season. Mudryk has scored 10 goals in 73 appearances in all competitions for the London side. The club till now had shown complete faith in the 24-year-old star, and even though he was not allowed to train with the side and play, he attended the Blues’ UEFA Conference League final win in Poland last month in a private capacity.

As per the process and FA rules, players have the right to request analysis of the B sample from a urine test. This can only be done in the event of an adverse analytical finding in an A sample. If the B sample analysis confirms the adverse finding, charges will be brought. Even then, a player in discussion has two choices – either accept the finding and the applicable consequences, or request that the matter proceed to a hearing.
