Oba Femi is a Nigerian-born athlete who transitioned from a standout track and field career into professional wrestling. Born on April 22, 1998, in Lagos, Nigeria, he earned athletic scholarships to Middle Tennessee State University and later the University of Alabama. There, he became a back‑to‑back SEC shot put champion, winning indoor titles in 2021 and 2022 and the outdoor crown in 2022 before graduating.
After signing with WWE in late 2021 through its NIL (Next In Line) development program, Odugbesan rebranded himself as Oba Femi and made his NXT in-ring debut in November 2022.
Oba Femi’s Early Life And Background
was born on April 22, 1998, in Lagos, Nigeria, one of Africa’s busiest and most culturally vibrant cities. Growing up in Lagos gave him a mix of traditional values, a strong work ethic, and ambition. From high school onwards, Oba Femi stood out in track & field, especially in the shot put event. His success earned him a track scholarship to Middle Tennessee State University, where he went on to become a Conference USA champion.
In the summer of 2019, he transferred to the University of Alabama, and there he won the SEC Indoor shot put titles in 2021 and 2022, as well as the outdoor title in 2022, all before graduating. These athletic achievements laid the solid foundation for his later move into professional wrestling
When Did Oba Femi Debut For WWE?
Femi made his WWE in‑ring debut on the November 18, 2022, episode of NXT Level Up, where he wrestled Dante Chen and lost in his first match under that name
He later had his official NXT brand debut on April 25, 2023, at the “Spring Breakin’” event, facing and defeating Oro Mensah in his first formal NXT appearance.
What Future Holds For Oba Femi?
Femi has a bright future in WWE. After becoming NXT Champion in January 2025 and dominating the brand, many believe he’s ready for the main roster. His strength, speed, and confidence have made him one of NXT’s top stars. He’s already beaten top names and continues to grow with every match.
