Jackie Robinson had an incredible 10-year career in Major League Baseball. He was named Rookie of the Year in 1947, the very first player to ever win that award. In 1949, he was chosen as the National League Most Valuable Player (MVP). He was picked for the All-Star team six times, helped the Brooklyn Dodgers win the World Series in 1955, and was honored in 1962 by being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. His achievements on the field were just as powerful as his impact off it.

How MLB celebrates Jackie Robinson Day

On this day, all players, coaches, and umpires wear the iconic number 42 jersey, which was retired league-wide in 1997.

This year, MLB is hosting various events, including a volunteer initiative to assemble hygiene kits for mental health programs, educational activities for children, and a special Nike RBI Day at the Jackie Robinson Museum in New York. Additionally, the Trailblazer Series, a youth baseball event for girls, and the MLB ID Tour to discover talent in underserved communities are part of the celebrations.
