The scenes at the Chase Center were disturbing. The Memphis Grizzlies were looking to crawl back into the game, but the team’s star player, Ja Morant, was in the locker room, nursing his right ankle. Fans were anxious, and then the arena came back to life as Morant made it back to the court, trying to finish up the incredible comeback. But it was not meant to be. The Golden State Warriors took the close game and advanced to the playoffs. Memphis? It will now play one more game to extend its 2024-25 season beyond 82 games.

Although Grizzlies fans were relieved to see Morant back on the court, the signs were not much encouraging as he was clearly in discomfort, not playing his natural game, and that raised many concerns about whether Ja Morant will play in the next ‘win-or-go-home’ game. The Memphis Grizzlies will face the Dallas Mavericks next in the play-in series – last chance to make the 2024-25 postseason. Here is Ja Morant’s current situation.

When Ja Morant left the court in agony, fans were more devastated. But Morant’s return gave them some hope. When asked in the post-game interview about Morant’s condition, Grizzlies interim coach Tuomas Iisalo said,

“Hopefully it’s not as severe. I have no information on that. It was inspiring, and I think it also lifted the guys up to see that your leader is putting it all on the line.”

The player himself showed a positive attitude. During an interview in the locker room, Ja Morant said.

“I’m playing. That’s the answer I’m giving. It ain’t nothing different.”

Morant is listed as questionable on Memphis’ injury report. However, given the circumstances, he will likely play a part in the game. The Grizzlies will be without Brandon Clarke (right PCL sprain) and Jaylen Wells (right wrist sprain, facial laceration, concussion protocol).
