Magic Johnson Sends Warning to LA Lakers Ahead of Playoff Series Against Minnesota Timberwolves
Fresh from a 50-win season, JJ Redick and the Los Angeles Lakers are ready for the postseason. The atmosphere is positive, the vibe is there, and players are ready for the challenge. Clearly, winning 50 games (only the second time since 2011) has injected confidence in the side. The side has won six NBA titles and reached the finals eight times since 2000, with 50+ wins under their belt in the regular season. A solid history to bank on. But former Laker Magic Johnson issues a stern warning to this Lakers side.
Sharing his thoughts on the ‘X’ he posted, “I’m scared for my Lakers because the game’s most exciting player, superstar Anthony Edwards, is a matchup problem.” True. Anthony Edwards’ numbers back him up. The 23-year-old star is a terror for any defence. He is averaging 27.4 points per game and finished fourth in the league this season.
Anthony Edwards is emerging as the Wolves’ future star. The franchise showed faith in him and traded former No. 1 pick Karl-Anthony Towns to build the team around Anthony. Plus, the team has three-time Defensive Player of the Year winner Rudy Gobert, who hit his form at the right time for the Wolves. Should the Lakers be worried about the matchup?

Adding to his previous post, Johnson said, “If the Timberwolves beat my Lakers, it’s because Naz Reid and Donte DiVenczo both have a big series.” Still confident in the Lakers’ roster, Magic picks LBJ and co to advance to the next round.
“I’m picking my Lakers in 6, led by superstars LeBron James and Luka Doncic.” He posted. “Austin Reaves will be the third man in the ring for the Lakers, and he has to have a big series as well as Rui Hachimura. Rui has to come up big for the Lakers to win.”
Hachimura’s role is vital for the Lakers as the Timberwolves have a great frontcourt duo with Gobert and Julius Randle, who are syncing well. Former Warriors’ star Donte DiVincenzo has also been in a great scoring run and chipped in with important points for the Wolves.
For the Lakers, LeBron James and Luka Doncic are leading the charge, while Austin Reaves will be the third star playing an important role at both ends. In the 2024-25 season series, both sides won two games each, while the Lakers, with Doncic, won the only faceoff.
The series will start on April 19. Fans should expect Magic Johnson at the courtside.
