Everton vs Manchester City – Preview, Starting XI, Live Streaming Details and More
Manchester City will be visiting Goodison Park for the last time in the Premier League this weekend, knowing that only a win from now till the end of the season can guarantee them a place in the top five and Champions League football for next season.
Pep Guardiola’s City side faces a daunting task, though, as they visit an Everton side in good form and confidence, having lost just once in their last six Premier League games, culminating in an impressive last-gasp win away at Nottingham Forest on Matchday 31.
The Cityzens occupy the final Champions League spot in England, just one point clear of Chelsea and Aston Villa, who sit in sixth and seventh. Hot on the heels of Manchester City, manager Pep Guardiola is mindful of the chasing pack, acknowledging that City do not have enough time on their hands, but also concedes Champions League football for next season sits in their lap with no room for complacency.
Manchester City are used to fighting for the Premier League title at this stage, and this unusual Champions League qualification challenge feels strange. Guardiola believes it is not a bad thing to fight for the Champions League, as things could have gone a whole lot worse.
“I don’t think it’s a bad thing to be fighting to qualify for the Champions League. You could be in a much lower position in the Premier League if you had done fewer good things than we have done in these four, five months.”
This promises to be a close encounter between both sides. On one hand, Everton has failed to record a victory over City in their last 15 matches, Manchester City has showcased clear dominance over Everton since that defeat in 2017.

Defenders John Stones and Nathan Ake are yet to recover from their respective long-term injuries and so remain on the sidelines. One bit of good news on the defensive front is Manuel Akanji, who is back and has had a few training sessions.
Phil Foden appears more likely to be involved in some capacity against Everton, with the manager sounding more positive on his potential return after the injury he picked up against Manchester United.
Although star striker Erling Haaland remains out, Kevin De Bruyne is expected to keep his place in midfield, while Savinho and Grealish will offer width and provide service from out wide.
Everton
Dwight McNeil continues his road to full fitness after being out for more than three months, and Moyes reveals he will continue to ease the player back into contention. It is expected he will maintain almost the same XI he used in the win over Forest last time out.
Everton are set to be without three players – Jesper Lindstrom recently underwent a hernia operation, and the Napoli loanee may have played his last game for the Toffees. He now joins long-term absentees Orel Mangala (knee) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (hamstring) in the treatment room.
Vitaliy Mykolenko was able to shake off a thigh issue to start at left-back in Everton’s 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest last weekend, and he is expected to continue in the back four alongside Jarrad Branthwaite, James Tarkowski, and Jake O’Brien.
