Joc Pederson Ends 0-for-41 Slump with Ninth-Inning Double
Texas Rangers designated hitter Joc Pederson broke his 0-for-41 hitless streak with a pinch-hit double in the ninth inning against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night. This hit marked his first since April 2, ending a franchise-record slump that had drawn comparisons to Chris Davis’s MLB record 0-for-54 stretch in 2019.
Despite Pederson’s late-game double, the Rangers fell to the Athletics 5-2. Wyatt Langford contributed a solo home run in the fourth inning, and Adolis Garcia drove in a run with a groundout in the sixth.
However, the Athletics maintained their lead, with Mason Miller securing his seventh save after allowing Pederson’s double but striking out the side.
How Has Joc Pederson Performed This Season?
Pederson has struggled since joining the Rangers. He signed a two-year, $37 million contract in December 2024, with a player option after the first year. As of April 24, he is hitting just .068 with 0 home runs and 0 RBIs in 59 at-bats.
This hit, though small on paper, could help him mentally and possibly spark a turnaround in the coming weeks.

What’s Next for the Rangers?
The Rangers are dealing with injuries, including a recent one to star shortstop Corey Seager, who was placed on the 10-day IL with a hip issue. Despite a strong start to the season, the team has dropped a few close games lately and will need key players like Pederson to step up.
They will next face Athletics on Thursday at the Raley Field.
