But from the start of the 2025 season, the seven-time Champion struggled to adjust to the ‘reality’ and at the end of the recent Monaco GP, he stands at sixth place with 63 points and no podium finish. But there was confusion on the Radio message that might have cost him his first-ever podium with Ferrari. He finished fifth in the race.
Lewis Hamilton has voiced confusion over a radio call delivered to him during the Monaco Grand Prix. Starting from the seventh place after a three-place penalty for impeding Max Verstappen during the qualifying round, the British racer was on his way to capture a podium finish as the standings during his first pit stop.
But that’s where things got tangled up. His race engineer Riccardo Adami told him, ‘This is our race. ‘ It was a hint to increase his pace. But the four-word advice confused Hamilton, searching for reasons as to why he needed to do so.

What Hamilton Said on Radio Message Confusion
The communication between the team and the racer is basic, yet the most important factor in F1 races. Hamilton was penalised over the ‘misunderstanding’ of the same, and now, during the race, it affected his position. Here is what he has to say about the radio message confusion.
“It wasn’t very clear. The information wasn’t exactly that clear. I didn’t really understand ‘this is our race’. I didn’t know what I was fighting for. Am I fighting for the next spot ahead? But in actual fact, when I look at the data, I wasn’t anywhere near any of the guys up front. So I used up my tyres a lot in that moment, I was so far away from them.”
Also when asked about the ‘two-pit stop rule’, Hamilton looked unfazed by the same.
“I can’t comment on the rest of the race. For me, I was kind of in the middle of nowhere. With the penalty I had, I obviously started seventh. I was obviously behind two cars for some time, I managed to clear them. I was kind of just in No Man’s Land after that. The gap was quite I relatively big, and I was really not racing anyway. I needed a safety car or something to come into play.”
While Lewis Hamilton lost the chance to win a podium at Monaco, at the Circuit de Barcelona, which will be the final race at the venue following a new track for the Spanish GP from the 2026 season.
