Kevin Durant Trade: Suns Ready to ‘Lower’ Price to Offload Star Forward Before 2025 NBA Draft
The Suns are desperate. With the draft class of 2025 seemingly not deep enough, the team is looking to collect most of the top order picks via trade, and their biggest asset in the market is Kevin Durant. As per multiple reports, the Houston Rockets currently tops the destination list with both sides looking to fulfil their ‘shortcomings’ from the 2024-25 season.
The Houston Rockets need offense, while the Suns are targeting center and defensive stability. Though Alperen Sengun is untouchable at the moment, Amen Thompson is one trade chip that could be considered. There is a twist, though.
The Rockets’ concerns are about breaking up their core for a player over 35 with injury concerns. This forces the Rockets to make a move cautiously. Iko reports Phoenix has even “gradually lowered the asking price” for Durant, and that there is a price point where Houston would be interested.

Kevin Durant has Many Suitors but No Takers?
The two-time NBA champion and Finals MVP has no shortage of suitors in the league. At 36, he is still one of the elite scorers and an unstoppable force for his teams. The Phoenix Suns added him to provide support to young Devin Booker and guards at the time (CP3, Bradley Beal, Tyus Jones). He led the team in scoring with 26.6 points and was efficient with 53% shooting and 41% from the range, but the end product was not what the Suns hoped for – missing the Playoffs.
For KD, there is no shortage of suitors. Just like Rockets, there are teams like the San Antonio Spurs, Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Miami Heat that are also interested in Slim Reaper. But the Suns’ asking price for a player of KD’s age with injury concerns and re-running the roster adjustments is halting the talks.
One thing in the Suns’ hands is to lower the price, and that’s what the side is doing to restart their structuring. If it’s done before the 2025 NBA Draft, they will target top prospects for the future too.
