Boxer Clarresa Shields Raises Doubts on Angel Reese Winning Sports Woman of the Year 2025 at BET Awards
“I just thought accolades mattered,” was Clarresa Shields’ reaction on social media when the awards were announced. It came when Angel Reese won Sportswoman Of The Year at the 2025 BET Awards, which was her third consecutive accolade. Chicago Sky forward Reese shared the accolade news on her Instagram story, but the boxer seemed unconvinced by Reese’s win.
Reese and Shields were both up against fellow athletes Simone Biles, Flau’jae Johnson, Coco Gauff, Dawn Staley, A’ja Wilson, Sha’Carri Richardson, and JuJu Watkins. Coco Gauff recently won the French Open title, while A’ja Wilson was the MVP of the 2024 WNBA Season. Simone Biles is seen as the apex of women’s Gymnastics, and Sha’Carri Richardson is a champion sprinter. Despite the tough competition, Reese’s win might have shocked Shields, posting her surprise on social media.
After receiving more pushback, Shields followed up with, “Ain’t nobody saying Angel Reese don’t have accolades or she not good…. I’m saying I thought the person with “THE MOST” accolades & accomplishments would win the Award. I’m team Angel Reese!” The Chi-Town Barbie has yet to address Shields’ thoughts on who truly deserves the recognition.

Angel Reese Looking to Get Some Wins for the Chicago Sky
The Chicago Sky has a 2-5 record in the WNBA a the moment and will be playing against the undefeated New York Liberty next at the Barclays Center. With Vandersloot’s season-ending injury, the side is in deep trouble looking to fight back after a poor start to the season.
Angel Reese, efficient on the rebounds front, struggled to find her rhythm in scoring. Many fans targeted her stats, claiming that she is ‘just a rebounding machine’ and needs to work on her shooting. First-year head coach Tyler Marsh is also looking to work on Reese’s shooting and help her form a lethal front court duo with Kamila Cardoso, the Chicago Sky franchise dreamed of while drafting them in 2024.
