Why Has The Miz Become So Unpopular In WWE?

The transformation from Awesome Miz to Unpopular Miz has been less shocking and more inevitable. While to some fans, he is polarizing, to others, he remains the same storyteller he was a decade ago. This stagnancy has cost The Awesome One his well-deserved story arcs that would have magnified his aura.

Undoubtedly, he remains one of the few consistent performers for well over a decade without any prolonged breaks. The question is, then, why has The Miz become so unpopular in WWE now?

1) Main Eventer Turned Mid-Card

WrestleMania 27 still seems like a recent memory when he defended his WWE title against John Cena. It has only gone downhill from such a thrilling match that placed him as a main eventer and established his credentials. The echo of that awesomeness is missing from his popularity now. Also, the lack of credible title defenses during his reign has labelled him as a mid-card.

2) Poor Booking

The fans who respect his hustle often blame the poor booking for his growing unpopularity. He is a safe bet who is used for elevating returning legends or extending the story arcs of other stars, but only to be downplayed and not taken as a major threat. In recent memory, fans watched him put over Edge, Logan Paul, and even Damian Priest.

3) Predictability

Even his best admirers will agree that he brings predictability with him when he walks into that ring. Whether it be his lack of dynamic moves when compared to others, or his persona as a loud-mouthed heel that has longed for reinvention. His mic work is flawless, the only issue is that it has been used to offer us the same old awesomeness, leading to him being seen as a better talker than a wrestler.

Why Is The Miz Missing From WWE?

The rumors started picking up before MITB 2025 that The Miz had left WWE, relating to his social media profiles, which he later clarified have no basis. He remains in the good books of WWE going forward. Then, why is he still missing?

The reason is possibly the filming of his much-awaited reboot of American Gladiators for Amazon Prime Video. The fact of the matter is, he will return.

Whether we get to see the same old The Miz or the reinvented one remains to be seen. But if he returns as the Popular Miz, who isn’t just a ladder for others but the one waiting for others above it, only to land his blow. He might just surprise us all!
