Austrian GP 2025: Lewis Hamilton On Verge of ‘Unwanted’ F1 Record Following Sixth Place Finish at Canadian GP
Lewis Hamilton finished sixth in Montreal for his worst-ever result at the track. He claimed the first place seven times earlier at the venue, and with Ferrari, he was off the mark and out of the podium standings. With 10 races completed, the British racer is yet to score a podium for the Scuderia in the F1 2025 season. And now, for the first time in his 19th F1 season, Lewis Hamilton has failed to reach the rostrum within the first 10 grand prix of a season.
Now the podium wait for Lewis Hamilton is extended to 12 races, with his last top-three finish coming in Las Vegas in the 2024 F1 season. He finished second in Sin City. And he finished 12th and then fourth in Qatar and Abu Dhabi to round out the season and his stay with Mercedes.
In 2009, Hamilton had to wait until the 10th race of the season in Hungary to score his first podium as the reigning world champion. He won that race to stay competitive in the standings. Now, if he misses the podium finish at the Austrian GP 2025, his run without a podium from the start of the season will reach 11 races at a minimum, and 13 overall. His all-time worst run without a podium is 13 races, which was set between the 2023 Sao Paulo and 2024 Spanish GPs, where he took third place.

Sadly, looking at his form, the chances of Hamilton missing the podium will be high. If he fails again in Austria, he could break that record at the British GP, which would mark 14 races since Las Vegas. The good thing about Lewis’ home Grand Prix is that the 40-year-old holds the record for most consecutive podiums at the British Grand Prix (11), having been on the rostrum every season since 2014.
But Ferrari is optimistic about the Austrian GP only. Their record in the 2025 season is not encouraging. Ferrari stands third with 183 points and has three podiums so far with no wins. McLaren won 7 races and has 16 podium finishes overall, leading the constructors’ standings with 374 points. Mercedes follows them with one race win and six podium finishes.
