Jimmy Butler Injury Update: Glute Contusion Puts Game 3 Status in Doubt
Golden State Warriors forward Jimmy Butler suffered a deep glute muscle contusion during Game 2 of their playoff series against the Houston Rockets. The injury occurred in the first quarter when Butler was undercut by Rockets guard Amen Thompson during a rebound attempt, causing him to land hard on his back. Butler briefly stayed in the game to shoot free throws but left shortly after and did not return.
An MRI on Thursday revealed no fractures or structural damage, which is considered the best-case scenario. However, his availability for Game 3 is in serious jeopardy, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The team is monitoring his condition closely, and his status remains questionable depending on his response to treatment.
Butler’s Impact Since Joining the Warriors
Since being traded from the Miami Heat in February, Butler has significantly contributed to the Warriors’ performance. In 30 games, he averaged 17.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists, helping the team achieve a 23–8 record during that span. His presence has been instrumental in stabilizing both the offense and defense, providing veteran leadership alongside Stephen Curry.

Warriors Struggle Without Butler
In Game 2, following Butler’s exit, the Warriors struggled on both ends of the court, ultimately losing 109–94 to the Rockets. The team’s defense weakened, and the offense lacked the cohesion seen in previous games. Jalen Green led the Rockets with 38 points, exploiting the gaps left by Butler’s absence.
Game 3 will be played on Saturday at Chase Center.
