Kevin Durant Trade to Houston Rockets: 4-Time Scoring Champion Finds Out About Deal in Live Interview (Watch Video)
The Kevin Durant trade saga is finally over. After missing the playoffs in the 2024-25 season with the Phoenix Suns, KD was seen as the biggest chip in the trade market. It was understood that the Suns were looking to trade Kevin Durant before the 2025 NBA Draft to use the top picks acquired from the KD trade.
While the franchises took their time and sealed the deal, Kevin Durant was not personally present for the final discussions – after already confirming his destination choices. He got the news during a live interview session with fans cheering KD’s name following the move.
Kevin Durant also seemed pleased and relieved with the trade confirmation, smiling on the stage. It will be interesting to watch how important this trade could turn out to be for the 36-year-old forward who is chasing an NBA Championship in the final phase of his career.

Kevin Durant Trade: Rockets Pocket Biggest Chip From Market
One of the Texas teams, between the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets, was favored to land Durant. Both sides had the young assets and draft capital that the Suns were looking for in return. But now with six draft picks (no.10 in the 2025 NBA Draft, five second-round picks), Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green, the Houston Rockets sealed the deal.
Their offensive struggles put them out of the championship contention despite finishing the 2024-25 season at second place in the West. Under Ime Udoka, the side earned a 50-win season and returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Adding KD will boost their championship chances for sure, with their core still intact.
Giannis Antetokounmpo was another big name on the trade market, but those close to the Bucks star are claiming that Giannis will stay put with the franchise. Rockets might just have bagged the biggest chip available in the market this offseason, and KD will also be looking to guide and lead the young side to a Championship since 1995.
The Rockets are now in a win-now window with Durant sharing the offensive load, and the Suns will now have even more decisions regarding their roster. It will be interesting to see whether they will be active once again in the market or get ready for the rebuild.
