2025 WNBA All-Star Game: Captains, Rosters, Schedule and Changes Made in Historic Event in Women’s Basketball
The results for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game voting are out, and the leaders continued to stay strong on the same, getting the captain’s role in the process. Yes, Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier will lead the side, which will be decided after a draft. While the remaining starters are also announced, the league will conduct one more voting, from the Coaches in the league and decide the 12 reserves for the pool. This is a new format of the WNBA All-Star game, which will be incorporated from the 2025 edition. Check out the WNBA All-Star selection process, results and some changes made in the annual gala event.
WNBA All-Star Selection Process
The WNBA All-Star player selection is based on voting results from fans, players, and media. The voting opened June 12 and closed June 28, with ballots allowing up to four guards and six frontcourt players. These votes will decide the starters of the WNBA All-Star game and are weighted as the fans’ votes account for 50%, current players’ votes account for 25% and media panel votes account for the remaining 25%.
The top two vote-getters from each conference, worth by fan consensus, become team captains, who then draft team rosters. For 2025, Caitlin Clark (1,293,526 votes) and Napheesa Collier (1,176,020) earned captaincy. On July 8, during a televised “WNBA Countdown” (on ESPN), they draft first from the starters, then from six reserves selected by coaches.

2025 WNBA All-Star Game: Changes and Upgrades from Previous Editions
As much as the regular season games and postseason games are gaining popularity among the fans, the in-season tournaments, including the All-Star game, are also widely admired. The league is looking to make things more interesting and has made some changes in the format for the 2024 All-Star Game edition.
The league intends to retain the draft format and will continue to use ‘captain-led team selection’ that was introduced in 2018. Before that, the traditional games were played as East vs. West alignments. One major change, though, in the 2025 edition will be a ‘Family Week activation’. This will expand fan events—Fever Fest, WNBA Live, interactive sessions and allow assessment of holistic culture beyond just the game.
Also, the payout has been increased with the host Committee awarding $1 million in grants to local youth and community centers as part of legacy initiatives.
