‘Rookie Talking Sh*t is Crazy’: Kelsey Plum Reacts to Paige Bueckers’ Trash Talk During Wings vs Sparks Commissioner Cup Match

Paige Bueckers on 2025 WNBA Draft orange carpet.

Paige Bueckers is still out of the action due to a concussion. The Dallas Wings’ star guard missed the game against the Los Angeles Sparks, which was her third game in a row sitting on the bench. But the former UConn star made sure that her presence was felt on the court as she was her usual self, trying to distract her opponents. During a break, Bueckers met Kelsey Plum and wanted to get into her mind with some distracting words before going into the locker room.

Although what PB said to the veteran guard was not clear, Plum mentioned she will remember the day. Then to the camera Plum blasted the ‘rookie’, She said, “Rookie talking sh*t is crazy. Rookies are built different here. I don’t even carry their loops anymore, what the F**k is going on”.

On the court, though, the former WNBA champion won the battle against Paige’s team as Sparks won the game 93-79 against the Wings. Sparks forward duo Azura Stevens and Dearica Hamby scored 20+ points while Plum herself racked up 11 points and 9 assists. Dejonai Carrington scored a team-high 16 points for the Wings, who are now 13th in the WNBA standings with a 1-8 record.

Paige Bueckers’ team might be struggling in the WNBA 2025 season, but the star is having a great individual rookie season. She is leading the rookie standings in scoring average and has her fans filling up the arenas. But she is not the only star making waves in the league.

Washington Mystics duo Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen are also making massive impact for their franchise. Kiki is leading the team in rebounds and Somia is also in the top-3 rankings for multiple stats. Iriafen won Rookie of the Month for May 2025, while Citron is seen as a strong contender for the Rookie of the Year award. The Mystics are 3-6 after their recent loss against the Liberty team.

A season ago, Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and Kamila Cardoso were giving veterans hard time on the court. Caitlin broke multiple records in her rookie season, made it to the All-Star and ended 4th in the MVP voting too. Reese was also selected in the WNBA All-Star and led the league in rebounds.

Fans are waiting for Juju Watkins, Sarah Strong, Olivia Miles, and Azzi Fudd’s time in the league too. With talented rookies, the WNBA certainly has a bright future.
