Carlos Sainz Car on Fire at F1 Austrian GP 2025

The eleventh race of the F1 2025 season had a horrifying start with Carlos Sainz’s racing car catching fire during the formation lap. Carlos Sainz was forced to retire from the Austrian Grand Prix after acquiring the 19th position in the qualifying rounds.

Sainz was able to start but could not complete the formation lap as he was forced into the pits following the flames coming out of the rear end of his car. The Spaniard was told on the radio, “Game over.” While quick action was taken as fire marshals rushed to the vehicle to put out a small fire. The F1 Race started with an 18-minute delay after the incident.

This was not the first time Sainz experienced such ‘a heartbreaking’ event. He was also forced to retire from the race in 2022. Sainz was with the Ferrari at the time, and his car engine went up in flames in 2022 at the Austrian GP only.

Carlos Sainz and Williams Struggles Continue in F1 2025

Williams took the opportunity to sign Sainz following Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari. The side was optimistic about the results as Spaniard is one of the established racers in the circuit with 3+ years’ experience in F1. He has 27 podium finishes under his belt with 4 race wins. He has accumulated over 1200 points in his career, a major accomplishment for a racer at his age.

But the move to Williams is yet to see any positive results with Sainz finishing out of the top-3 in F1 2025 races so far and was out of the race thrice now – Austrian GP, Bahrain GP and Australian GP. His top finish in the 2025 season so far is number 8, achieved in the Italian GP and the Saudi Arabian GP.

In the 2025 season, Williams’ side also collected 55 points and stands fifth in the Constructors’ standings. The F1 team is yet to earn a podium finish with nearly half of the season already completed.
