Bobby Miller’s Season Debut Goes South In Dodgers vs Rockies

Bobby Miller pitching for Dodgers

For Bobby Miller, Wednesday night was supposed to be a fresh start. Recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City, the 25-year-old right-hander took the mound for his 2025 Dodgers debut against the Rockies, hoping to reset a rocky major league track record. Instead, it felt like deja vu.

Miller cruised through his first two innings, racking up seven strikeouts and showing glimpses of the promise the Dodgers are banking on. But in the third inning, everything unraveled.

After holding Colorado in check early, Miller was lit up for six earned runs in the third — capped off by a grand slam from Michael Toglia, immediately followed by a solo shot from Mickey Moniak. Just like that, a 7-0 Dodgers lead turned into a 7-6 nail-biter.

By the end of his outing, Miller’s line was tough to look at. He pitched just three innings, gave up eight hits, six earned runs, one walk, and struck out seven on 84 pitches.

It wasn’t the return the Dodgers were hoping for.

Disappointing Start for Bobby Miller

The night had started on a much different note. The Dodgers batted around in the first inning, putting up seven runs, beginning with a Shohei Ohtani leadoff homer and a Freddie Freeman bomb. LA piled it on with clutch two-out hits — an Andy Pages two-run single, an Austin Barnes two-run double, and another Ohtani RBI single.

But Miller couldn’t hold the cushion. After back-to-back homers in the third, he was pulled in the fourth for Anthony Banda.

This wasn’t the debut Miller envisioned. After struggling to a 8.52 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in 13 starts last season, he looked improved in the minors this year — allowing just three runs in 12 innings. But under the bright lights of Dodger Stadium, the command slipped again.

The Dodgers are 13-6 this season.
