Jayson Tatum Injury: What Happened to Jayson Tatum?
The Boston Celtics suffered a brutal blow in more ways than one on Sunday night. Not only did they let a double-digit lead slip away, but they also watched their franchise star, Jayson Tatum, go down with a scary injury in the closing minutes of Game 4.
With just under three minutes left and the Celtics trying to mount a late push, Tatum collapsed to the floor while chasing a loose ball, without any contact. He immediately clutched his right leg and had to be helped off the court by medical staff. The forward was later seen being taken to the locker room in a wheelchair. An MRI is scheduled to determine the severity, but the initial signs weren’t good.
Before the injury, Tatum was having a spectacular night. He dropped 42 points on 16-of-28 shooting, grabbed eight boards, dished out four assists, and tallied four steals. It was one of his best postseason performances until disaster struck.
Knicks Flip the Script to Take Control of the Series
The Celtics led by as many as 14 in the third quarter, but the Knicks weren’t done. Jalen Brunson once again played the role of closer, finishing with 39 points and 12 assists. Mikal Bridges added 23, while Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby chipped in with 23 and 20, respectively.
New York outscored Boston 64–32 in the paint and went on a dominant 14–2 run in the fourth quarter to seal a 121–113 win. With the victory, the Knicks now hold a commanding 3–1 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
The series heads back to Boston for Game 5, but all eyes will be on Jayson Tatum’s injury status. If he’s out, the Celtics’ chances of making a comeback may have walked off the floor with him.
