Lakers’ Trade Rejection Mark Williams Trolls LeBron & Co. After First-Round Exit
The Los Angeles Lakers’ 2024–25 NBA season concluded with a disappointing first-round playoff exit, marking the second consecutive year they were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Adding to the team’s woes, former trade target Mark Williams took to social media to mock the Lakers following their defeat.
In Game 5 of the series, the Timberwolves defeated the Lakers 103–96, clinching the series 4–1 and advancing to the Western Conference semifinals. Rudy Gobert led Minnesota with 27 points and 24 rebounds, setting a team postseason record.
Despite strong performances from Luka Doncic (28 points) and LeBron James (22 points), the Lakers struggled with turnovers and poor shooting, ultimately sealing their playoff exit.
This marks the second straight season the Lakers have been eliminated in the first round by the Timberwolves, highlighting ongoing challenges for the team in the postseason.

Mark Williams Mocks Lakers on Social Media
Following the Lakers’ elimination, Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams, whose trade to the Lakers was rescinded earlier this season due to a failed physical, took to social media to mock the team. On X, he posted a smiling emoji, and on Instagram, he shared a meme of a man posing at a funeral, implying he was celebrating the Lakers’ downfall.
Williams was initially set to join the Lakers in a trade that would have sent Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, and future draft picks to Charlotte. However, the deal was canceled after Williams failed his physical, reportedly due to concerns over his injury history, including back problems and other ailments.
LeBron James Reflects on Season and Coach JJ Redick
Despite the disappointing end to the season, LeBron James expressed support for rookie head coach JJ Redick. “Whatever happens; JJ is going to continue to grow. He had a hell of a campaign for a rookie coach… That’s one thing for sure that we know, a great up and coming coach that will be great for many years,” James said.
As the Lakers head into the offseason, questions remain about the team’s future direction and how they will address the challenges that led to their early playoff exit.
