Derrick Harmon was raised in Detroit, Michigan, by his mother, Tiffany Saine, and father, Derrick Harmon Sr. Tiffany, a dedicated hotel manager, single-handedly raised Derrick. Despite facing health challenges, including a stroke in 2022 that led to paralysis on her left side, she remained a steadfast supporter of her son’s ambitions.
Derrick Harmon Sr. maintained a more private presence but was a source of support throughout Derrick’s journey. Derrick often emphasized his mother’s pivotal role in his life, stating, “Me and my mom’s for sure like teammates ’cause she’s rootin’ for me on that field.”

Harmon’s collegiate football career began at Michigan State, where he played from 2021 to 2023, recording 71 tackles and 3.5 sacks. In 2024, he transferred to the University of Oregon, where he had a standout season with 45 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, and multiple forced fumbles and pass breakups.
