Premier League Flops of the Season 2024-25 Season
The dust is yet to settle following the conclusion of the 2024-25 English Premier League season, with Arne Slot’s Liverpool surprisingly crowned champions, and all 3 promoted sides instantly head back to the championship.
It was a surprising triumph for the Reds, who had missed out on the title in the last 3 seasons, and they did this despite spending less in the transfer window compared to their more illustrious rivals.
Spending just a little over 42 million euros on 2 players alone, Liverpool showed that spending much does not necessarily guarantee success as one of such signings (Chiesa) played no Pivotal role in its title charge.

Flops of Premier League 2024-25 Season
Chiesa
Federico Chiesa joined Liverpool in a €12 million deal as cover and to challenge attackers like Mohammed Salah, Gakpo, Luis Dias and Diogo Jota. Once heralded as the golden boy of Italian football, injuries and a lack of consistency have hurt the 27-year-old’s progress but joining Liverpool was supposed to give him a clean slate.
What would follow would be worse, a nightmare. He was only involved in 6 matches in the Premier League, starting only once. He scored only twice and provided a further 2 assists, Even before the conclusion of the Premier League season, it had been rumoured he would leave Liverpool and Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed those reports with the Italian Serie A his most likely destination. His exit from the Club could reignite Liverpool’s interest in Anthony Gordon or mean more game time for Harvey Elliot upfront.
Jack Grealish
The England International has been reassured of his Three Lions place by Thomas Tuchel if he gets regular playing time. His importance under Pep Guardiola dropped significantly this past season, with some thinking it’s no coincidence that it also affected the fortune of the entire club this season.
Never a prolific goal scorer, his best season in terms of output came in the treble season of 2022-23, scoring 5 goals and 7 assists, but he was an integral part of the squad. This past season, Jack Grealish scored only once in 20 Premier League matches he was involved in, starting only 11 of those matches.
Grealish was excluded from the City Club World Cup Squad while Pep Guardiola sees his future away from Manchester City, several reports have linked him with an Aston Villa return, and Manchester City are prepared to take a hit on the 100 million pounds paid for a player whose contract expires in 2027.
Cole Palmer
The attacking midfielder took the Premier League by storm in the 2023-24 scoring 27 goals in total and providing 15 assists. 22 of those goals came in the Premier League as Chelsea finished in a Europa League spot, but eventually we’re pushed into the Conference League spot.
This season, more was expected from the 23-year-old expected to lead this young Chelsea side to more success. Chelsea achieved Champions League football this season, but Palmer was by no means central to that. Injuries played a part, but a loss of form also contributed. His numbers also dropped,d scoring only 15 times with just the 9 assists. He has equally gone blank at the Club World Cup, failing to register a goal or assist as Chelsea progress to the Round of 16. While there are no threats to his place ahead of next season, he must indeed improve his output.

Phil Foden
Another Englishman who finds himself on the list after a stellar previous season. While talking about his lacklustre performance this season, Foden believes ‘Offfield’ issues and ankle problems affected his game, but not many will accept, seeing as his numbers dropped drastically,y scoring 7 goals in the Premier League and 12 in total.
For a player who led Manchester City to the Premier League title in 2023-24, scoring 27 goals overall and 19 Premier League goals, he must improve if City are to challenge Liverpool and Arsenal for the title.
Rasmus Hojlund
The Danish Striker joined Manchester United in the 2022-23 season and scored 16 goals in total, It was expected Hojlund would also improve on his 10 Premier league goals from the previous season but Manchester United faithfuls were left startled as the Danish striker looked lost and out of sorts first under sacked manager Eric Ten Haag and new boss Ruben Amorim.
10 goals in 52 matches is a poor return for a striker who carries the hope of Manchester United faithful, and with Vikto Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko available in this transfer window, it appears Hojlund’s days are numbered. Inter Milan and AC Milan have been linked as a possible return to the Serie A looms.
