Premier League: Tottenham Hotspurs Possible XI for 2025-26 Season
Winning the Europa League in May this year came with a very good prize of Champions League football for Tottenham Hotspur heading into the 2025-26 season.
Few would have envisioned such a glorious end to last season, given Tottenham’s woeful performance in the Premier League, which resulted in a 17th-place finish, their worst ever in over 30 years.
Ange Postecoglou was eventually relieved of his duties despite success in the Europa League, as many deemed it a harsh decision given the debilitating effect the ‘viral’ injuries had on his squad. Key players like Romero, Van de Ven, and Udogie were out for most of the season, leaving the manager helpless in most matches.
All that is water under the bridge following the introduction of Thomas Frank to North London, the former Brentford manager has confessed to inheriting a squad with quality, even as fans would hope he does not inherit the injury curse of last season along with it.
Thomas Frank has promised an attacking brand of football. You might be tempted to giggle, but many argue he now possesses the kind of tools he never had while he was at Brentford.
Goalkeeper
Guglielmo Vicario was ‘infected’ with the injuries that so ravaged the squad last season, missing 3 months of football. The now-departed Fraser Forster deputised as well as 22-year-old January import Antonin Kinsky.
Vicario is expected to keep his place in the starting XI with Kinsky acting as the second-choice goalkeeper.
Goalkeeper: Guglielmo Vicario
Defence
Thomas Frank has promised attacking football, which many believe will be impossible with a back-five system.
The early signs from pre-season indicate the former Brentford boss has transitioned from a back five to a back 4. Micky Van De Ven fights with his hands as Kevin Danso looks to have created an impression on the manager, starting twice, while Cristian Romero appears to have shelved plans of an exit to Atletico Madrid. Destiny Udogie is back fully fit and involved in pre-season matches, which is good news as he has been missed. Players like Radu Dragusin, Ben Davie,s and Luka Vuskovic will have to fight for limited spots.
Defence: Pedro Porro, Kevin Danso, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie.
Midfield
The manager has rotated between a 4-4-1-1 and 4-3-2-1. In Midfield, though, Tottenham will continue to have the usual faces. Rodrigo Bentacur is expected to keep his place, Pape Matar Sarr will, and Yves Bissouma will continue to battle for a place. James Maddison will occupy the attacking midfield position ahead of Lucas Bergvall, who impressed last season.
Midfield: Bentacur, Yves Bissouma, James Maddison
Attack
Uncertainties continue to surround Tottenham captain Heung-min Son’s future. LAFC has offered him a £12m contract. His exit will prompt the Spurs to seek a replacement.
Tottenham has been credited with interest in Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus. The new CEO at Spurs, Vinai Venkatesham, was a former CEO at Arsenal, hence the interest. Tottenham have also been rumoured to enquire about Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, who is also wanted by Arsenal.
Having signed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United for €63.8m and converted the loan deal for Mathys Tel into a permanent one, Spurs could be heading into the new season with an entirely new front line, except for Dominic Solanke.
Manor Solomon returns from his loan spell at Leeds, but Timo Werner returns to Leipzig following the conclusion of his loan deal. Brazilian striker Richarlison will hope to have an improved 2025-26 season as he prepares to compete for a place alongside Brennan Johnson, Solanke, and Tel.
Attack: Mohamed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, Dominic Solanke
Tottenham Potential IX
Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Maddison, Bentancur, Sarr; Kudus, Solanke, Kulusevski.
