When Can Barcelona Win the La Liga Title?
The 2024–25 La Liga season has witnessed three teams rotate leadership at the top of a league that will conclude on May 25, with Barcelona favored at 1/6 to lift this season’s La Liga title.
Having lost the title to Real Madrid last season, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona started this campaign like a team on a mission, winning six out of their opening six matches — including a huge El Clásico victory that moved them four points clear at the top. Only Tata Martino, with eight wins, and Ernesto Valverde, with seven wins, had better starts than Flick.
However, a winter slump for Barcelona, including a four-game winless run, plunged them into third place, allowing Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid to take over, making this season’s La Liga race extremely tight. Atletico Madrid, as recently as last month, even occupied the top spot.
Barcelona, though, reclaimed leadership after 79 days following nine consecutive victories, maintained their position at the top ever since, and are now favorites to reclaim the title they lost last season.

When Can Barcelona Win La Liga?
With all three top teams having played 35 matches so far, Barcelona sits on 82 points, holding a Seven-point advantage over closest challengers Real Madrid (75 points). Atletico Madrid are a distant third, 12 points adrift.
With a Seven-point lead at the top and three games left, Barcelona would only need a minimum of 2 points in 3 matches to also reach 84 points and clinch the title.
Thus, the earliest that Barcelona can confirm the league title would be, if Real Madrid either draw or lose against RCD Mallorca, Barcelona would be the champions regardless of any other results.
Real Madrid last lost to Mallorca 1-0 in 2023, but have won 26 direct head-to-head matches with Mallorca
Even if Madrid win that game, Barcelona can still clinch the title by winning against local rivals RCD Espanyol on Thursday.

When Will Barcelona Receive the Trophy?
Last season, Real Madrid could not receive their trophy immediately after defeating Cádiz on Matchday 34 because it depended on Barcelona losing to Girona, which subsequently happened. La Liga then confirmed to Madrid they would receive the trophy on Matchday 35 against Granada, but Madrid refused as a mark of respect to a Granada side on the brink of relegation. Real Madrid eventually lifted the trophy on Matchday 36 after a tie against Alavés at the Bernabéu.
This season, Barcelona could be handed the La Liga trophy on Matchday 36 at the RCDE Stadium, home ground of their eternal rivals Espanyol — provided they win all matches until that fixture.
Records Set by Barcelona So Far This Season
The Barcelona team made history this season, celebrating 124 goals in 40 matches — representing the highest scoring record for a Spanish football team after their first 40 matches of a campaign in 64 years.
The previous record belonged to Real Madrid under Miguel Muñoz. That legendary team, which included stars like Paco Gento, Ferenc Puskás, and Alfredo Di Stéfano, scored 132 goals in the 1959–60 season. Now, more than six decades later, the record is back in azulgrana colors.
When Barcelona wins the title, they will also be remembered for how they reclaimed the league leadership. No team had ever made up a seven-point deficit in just three matchdays to take the La Liga lead. After Matchday 21, Barça trailed Real Madrid by seven points, but turned things around by beating Alavés (1-0), Sevilla (4-1), and Rayo Vallecano (1-0) between Matchdays 22 and 24.
Barcelona remain unbeaten in La Liga in 2025, playing 14 matches and drawing just two. Scoring more than 78 goals in the process ensures they will be the first team to achieve such a feat en route to winning the title.
Also in 2025, Barcelona scored three or more goals in five matches, with a couple of 1-0 victories and another 2-0 win (against Las Palmas).
