Who did Real Madrid lose to in the Champions League in 2024-25 season?
15-time Champions League winners – an achievement every Madridista is proud of. They lifted the trophy in 2024, and with the addition of Kylian Mbappe, it actually looked like a cakewalk for the Spanish giants in the 2024-25 edition. Sadly, it was not. The defending champions got knocked out in the quarterfinal at the hands of Arsenal – the side who never won a title.
No disrespect to the Gunners, the Premier League side is a very talented and strong contender for the title, but stats and history highlight something else. And Real Madrid? They crumbled throughout the season. The side had to win the last three matches to move up the standings and qualify for the playoffs.

Real Madrid’s Losses in the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League
0-1 Loss vs Lille, October 2, 2024
The season commenced with a surprising 1–0 loss to French side Lille on October 2, 2024. The defence let down Carlo Ancelotti’s team, and just like that, Madrid’s 36-match unbeaten streak ended in an unexpected manner. Jonathan David’s first-half penalty was the difference in the match.
3-1 Loss vs AC Milan, November 5th, 2024
The second defeat came in November as AC Milan visited the Santiago Bernabeu on the 5th and left with a 3–1 victory. Though Vinicius Junior scored in the match, there were major issues on the Madrid side, and Ancelotti openly talked about them in press conferences, demanding improvements from his players.
2-0 Loss vs Liverpool, November 27, 2024
In the same month, on the 27th, the situation got worse when Liverpool scored two goals at Anfield, keeping a clean sheet against a strong Madrid attack. This was Madrid’s first loss to the English club since 2009. Mbappe and Bellingham were criticised for their lack of attacking intent, where Liverpool’s performance proved to be a confidence booster for them, as they took control of the league after the win.
3-0 Loss vs Arsenal, April 8, 2024
Real Madrid suffered a heavy 3–0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium, and Declan Rice’s free kicks stole the show. The midfielder scored two outrageous free kicks to put the Gunners in front. Mikel Merino then scored the third goal for the home side to make it a dominant win.
2-1 Loss vs Arsenal, April 16, 2024
Real Madrid’s hope of making a comeback was crushed in the second half with Bukayo Saka’s opening goal. Vinicius Jr did pull one back for Real after an error from William Saliba but it wasn’t enough as Gabriel Martinelli put the game in bed in stoppage time and knocked the defending champions pit of the competition.
