More Burden On A’ja Wilson As Las Vegas Aces' Key Player Out Injured For Season

The WNBA 2025 season is about to start in two weeks with the pre-season matches starting from May 2. The new-look Dallas Wings will take on the Las Vegas Aces in the first pre-season games. Both teams have gone through major transformations but the Aces will miss one of their key players, back up for the MVP A’ja Wilson. On Thursday, the team announced that centre Megan Gustafson has suffered a lower left leg injury and will be sidelined indefinitely.

The 28-year-old was projected to remain in her role as A’ja Wilson’s backup, coming off the bench when the superstar needed to take a break. In six WNBA Seasons, Megan has played in four different sides and joined the Aces in 2024. She averaged 4.4 points, and 2.5 rebounds in 151 matches clocking just over 10 minutes in games.

With Cheyenne Parker-Tyus missing a significant part of the 2025 season due to her pregnancy and two big names like Kelsey Plum and Sydney Colson leaving, the LV franchise has already suffered a major loss. Kate Martin and Tifanny Hayes also left the side in free agency. This puts a lot of pressure on A’ja Wilson, who led the side to the WNBA championship in 2023 and also played a crucial role in the title run before that.

Assuming Gustafson misses significant time, it likely means more minutes open up for Elizabeth Kitley, who is effectively in her rookie season after recovering from a torn ACL. Kitley has been a great player for Virginia Tech, leading them to the Final Four of the NCAA tournament.

The Las Vegas Aces, who returned to the city of lights in 2018, won two titles with A’ja Wilson on the roster. The side won four conference titles and will aim for a strong season again.
