Napheesa Collier Blasts at Fan Claiming Lynx Star Hurdle in CBA Negotiation
The CBA negotiations between the WNBA and the WNBA players’ association have been a hot topic since the end of the 2024 season. Players opted out of the 2022 CBA deal looking for a better deal with the rise of the league. One fan questioned the intentions of Napheesa Collier being the vice president of the WNBPA (Women’s National Basketball Players’ Association) as she has formed another league – Unrivalled in 2024.
Collier, shocked by the allegations, was quick to react. She found the accusations laughable and made her stand clear on the topic. The Lynx star replied to the post, targeting her and Breanna Stewart and wrote, “So let me get this straight. While everyone else was enjoying fireworks, you were thinking about how me and & Stewie of all people are conspiring to force a lockout that would result in less money year-round for WNBA players??”
the Former UConn star has cleared the air over the allegations, while Breanna Stewart is yet to reply on the bold claims. While it is fair to say that the Liberty forward will side with Napheesa in this regard.
Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart’s Unrivalled League Has No Relation to the WNBA
For starters, the Unrivalled League is played during the WNBA offseason. It is a 3-on-3 competition with the idea to provide WNBA players with a domestic, high-quality, and well-compensated playing opportunity during the WNBA offseason. In addition to the WNBA players, there were some ‘deserving stars’ who missed out on entry into the WNBA.
Plus, Napheesa Collier and Stewart’s idea behind Unrivalled was to keep players within the country as during the off-season. Many WNBA players used to seek action in Europe, Asia and Australian leagues for better pay. Some even played in these leagues to stay in practice and healthy for the upcoming season.
Even though the Unrivalled aims to offer competitive salaries and better resources than many international leagues, it was intentional efforts to keep players interested and involved in the games. The league has secured substantial funding and high-profile investors to support this.
Wherein the CBA negotiations have halted as of now between WNBA and WNBPA, blaming Napheesa Collier or Breanna Stewart might not be suitable. Both players are still active in the league and would also benefit from the new CBA deal.
