WNBA 2025 Golden State Valkyries Release Shyanne Sellers
Selection in the WNBA draft alone does not assure a roster spot in the franchise and the reality hits hard nearing the end of training camps. With only 12 roster spots available on each of the 13 teams, the league only offers around 156 spots. With balancing the salary cap and roster spots, teams sometimes even opt to select just 11 players to pay up their stars better. This might force teams to let go of their rookies.
The latest rookie who fell victim to the constraints of the WNBA is Maryland guard Shyanne Sellers. She is now the first player to be cut from the WNBA expansion team’s training camp roster. The Valkyries had selected Shyanna as the 17th overall pick. With no other league option aligned with WNBA–like G league in men’s games, the player is completely released from the contract.
The franchise confirmed Shyanne Sellers’ departure, but there is no specific reason mentioned in the short statement released.
WNBA will also add two more expansion teams next season, with Toronto and Portland sides preparing to enter the league. Also, the improved CBA will allow franchisees to fill up the 12th spot. Till then, though, a rookie’s path is a rocky one in the W.
